OVERVIEW

Heather L. McCloskey is a partner at McCloskey, Waring & Drury LLP.  Her practice focuses on general business litigation, with an emphasis on intellectual property and contract disputes, as well as insurance coverage litigation.  She advises and counsels insurance companies with respect to complex insurance coverage disputes and representing insurance companies in coverage litigation involving construction claims, breach of contract claims, mass torts, product liability claims, pollution claims, bad faith claims, and other areas.  Ms. McCloskey has extensive trial experience in state and federal courts, representing her clients in a wide range of civil disputes.  Additionally, she has extensive appellate experience in both state and federal courts, including California Courts of Appeal and the Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals. 

 

Originally from the East Coast, Ms. McCloskey practiced litigation for many years as a partner with the law firm of Ervin, Cohen & Jessup, LLP in Beverly Hills, California and later as Special Counsel with Sedgwick LLP.  Her prior litigation practice focused on litigating a wide range of issues confronting manufacturers and distributors in the fashion, toy, food and beverage industries, among others, including disputes ranging from supply chain contracts to licensing agreements and infringement of copyright, trademark and trade dress belonging to such entities.  Ms. McCloskey has also negotiated and handled disputes relating to celebrity sponsorship agreements, right of publicity disputes, and defamation claims.  From 2004 through 2007, she was named a “Southern California Rising Star,” a recognition given to the top 200 attorneys in Southern California under the age of 40 practicing less than 10 years, by Law & Politics.  Only 2 percent of Southern California attorneys are recognized.  She earned her B.A. from Bard College and her J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.  When she is not assisting her clients, Ms. McCloskey enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs.
